Today, the IRS announced they successfully opened their systems for tax year 2015 returns. Through mid-day, the IRS had received several hundred thousand tax returns. They expect more than 150 million individual returns will be filed for tax year 2015.
Taxpayers will have until Monday April 18 to file their 2015 tax returns. The extra time is because April 15th falls on a holiday (Emancipation Day) in Washington, D.C. Taxpayers in Maine and Massachusetts will have until Tuesday, April 19 because of Patriot’s Day observances on April 18.
