Are you considering a career in tax preparation, or have you been preparing tax returns for many years and want to set yourself apart from the competition? If so, the IRS’ new Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP) credential is the perfect way to show potential clients that you take certification and education seriously. The first step in the process is to complete an Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR) course. This is our second year offering an AFTR course, and we are excited to be one of the IRS’s select approved providers.
What does the AFTR course cover? The IRS dictates the AFTR course content for all providers. The course covers tax law topics across three domains: New Tax Law/Recent Updates, General Review and Ethics, Practices and Procedures. Full details of the course content guidelines can be found on the IRS website as well as this detailed blog post on the Tax University site.
What are the requirements to get an Annual Filing Season Program – Record of Completion? A tax return preparer must obtain 18 hours of CE from an IRS Approved CE Provider (The Tax University!). The hours must include a 6 credit hour Annual Federal Tax Refresher (AFTR) course that covers tax filing issues and tax law updates. The AFTR course includes a 100 question test that must be passed with a score of 70% or better and must be completed by December 31st, 2016. The other 12 hours of CE must include 2 hours of Ethics and 10 hours of Federal Tax Law. Click HERE for a complete list of CE offering from the Tax University.
We know your time is valuable. Therefore we design our courses to provide you with the most important and useful knowledge for the minimum amount of time and money invested.
Ordering is easy and the Tax University makes completing your CE a breeze. All of the courses are completed online and the Tax University takes care of reporting the CE for you to the IRS electronically once you complete each course.
